Interior Design / Residence
Over Closet Loft Cavity. Closet Doors Added.
Project Brief
This project was a request to close up a loft closet cavity by designing and building an enclosure with a 3-way sliding door. The only main challenge was that the ceiling wasn't flat, it had an angled vaulted surface.

Step By Step
How the enclosure came together
- We took measurements of the open area.
- We presented a 3D render so the client could see what the enclosure would look like post construction.
- We made a run to Home Depot to pick up the needed material. The sliding door function comes as a kit found at Home Depot.
- We framed out the open space. Since the ceiling was angled and not flat, we cut a piece of wood to create an acute angled triangle shim that would position the top 2x4 in a flat position.
- We added plywood to the base of the loft cavity top to reinforce the drywall's integrity to support heavy items or use of the crawl space.
- We cut the facade molding trim pieces.
- We painted all molding trim and framing.
- We installed the sliding door tracks and placed the doors.
- We painted the doors and added cut-outs for the slide finger-handle notches.
- VOILA!
Project complete. This took approximately 6 to 7 hours from start to finish, including the run to Home Depot to source material and supplies.
