59th Street Oasis
(A Bare Salon Transformed Into A Botanical Garden)
Project Brief
This leafy lathered oasis was a project commissioned by a hair stylist and salon owner in midtown Manhattan on 59th Street near the Bloomingdale's shopping center. She wanted the space to have a sophisticated forestry vibe. I wrapped the walls in a leaf patterned, easy to clean wallpaper, mounted shelving for the hair products, hung the viewing body mirrors, and drilled faux plants with upside-down pottery from the ceiling.
This project entry was a creative request of a salon owner. He suggested that the space needed the look and feel of a jungle because he's into botanical displays, but wanted his clients to walk into a modern, open air, natural and refreshing experience. All I said was, not a problem.
The scope of work encompassed wallpapering, shelving mounts for all the products, a uniquely designed naturally shaped vanity body-length mirror selection and mount, a faux foliage green wall, upside-down hanging faux planters and an IKEA wall mounted cabinet for additional storage.
“FABULOUS, YOU DID IT!”The salon owner, on seeing the end results
